Banksia Petite
Inspired by WA’s South West, the Banksia Collection celebrates the serenity of the southern coastline.
Banksia - The Collection
With a recent move to WA’s south west, Magnolia has found herself captivated by the bushlands which dominate this significant corner of Australia.
First taken by the banksia leaf during a trip in 2019, the banksia has now collected more significance as Magnolia transitions to her new southern environment. As a visitor to the southern parts of WA, there is a noticeable shift in the terrain, temperature and textures that surround you. These changes are usually accompanied by a drop in the air temperature, the body’s signal to unwind as the urban landscape stretches further away from you.
Captivated by the structural range of banksia genus, it was the linearity of the Banskia prionotes or acorn banksia that took Magnolia on first impact. The serrated margins of the leaves, their textured underbody and the central spine create an incredibly delicate yet striking composition. With it’s flowers graduating from a pale cream to fluorescent orange, groves of these can hold the wanderer captive.
The closer you look, the more mesmerising the form of the Banskia becomes. The leaves in their dried state are often found coiled or curved, lending themselves in these sculptural forms to marry in beautifully with the malleable nature of gold, on its final setting on the human body.
This concept of the leaf as a form of adornment speaks to an ancient tradition, most markedly that of Grecian jewellery which features heavily the use of leaf forms in the creation of golden wreaths.
The Banksia Collection celebrates the structural beauty and simplicity of the Banksia prionotes that glow within the landscape as golden groves.
Crafted in both 9ct gold or silver, this collection is an ode to new beginnings, even newer landscapes and an endless love of nature.
